Information

Mangoes are perfect for anyone who likes things sweet, exotic and also healthy as they are easy to digest, haematopoietic (produce blood cells and platelets) due to their high iron content, boost the immune system with vitamin A and C, aid vision, prevent skin ageing and strengthen the heart and brain. It is not really surprisingly, therefore, that the mango keeps increasing in popularity – and that in Germany annual imports have increased from c. 700 metric tons in 1979 to over 50,000 metric tons today.

There are meanwhile over 1000 varieties of this delicious fruit, which differ in terms of colour and flavour. Well-ripened mangoes can weigh up to 2kg. The original home of the mango tree is India, which is still where they are mainly grown. These days, however, they are cultivated in all tropical areas.
